    Amid measles outbreak, VP Leni urges parents: Have your kids vaccinated

    Vice President Leni Robredo has strongly urged parents to immediately have their children vaccinated, amid the measles outbreak in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

    VP Leni made this declaration as the outbreak claimed the lives of at least 50 children. According to Health officials, more than 2 million children remain unvaccinated, raising concerns of more catching the disease.

    “Sa lahat ng mga magulang na nakikinig sa atin ngayon, nanawagan po ako sa inyo na bigyang pansin sa lalong madaling panahon ang pagpapabakuna ng ating mga anak at ng buong pamilya laban sa tigdas,” VP Leni said in a recorded video message released on Thursday, February 7. “Buhay at kaligtasan ng ating mga mahal sa buhay ang nakasalalay.”

    Health officials have said that disinformation on vaccination contributed greatly to the immunization scare, which they said caused a significant spike in cases of measles.

    VP Leni backed the DOH as it assured parents that the vaccines available for measles and other infectious diseases are safe for use.

    “Subok na ng mahabang panahon ang bisa ng mga bakunang ito, at walang dahilan para hindi ito gumana kung kailan natin pinakakailangan,” she added.

    Reiterating that the situation should not be politicized by critics, VP Leni urged Filipinos to help one another in restoring the trust of the public in vaccines.

    “Hindi ito panahon para sa pulitika o alitan, panahon ito para sa pagkilos. Bilang isang ina, hindi katanggap-tanggap para sa akin na umabot tayo sa ganito. Pero may magagawa pa tayo,” she said.
