At 9:00 am, the Vice President was called on by Ms. Universe 2018 Catriona Gray at the Quezon City Reception House.

At 11:00 am, she proceeded to the De La Salle University Ka Pepe Diokno Human Rights Award at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall, De La Salle University, Taft Avenue, Manila. The Ka Pepe Diokno Human Rights award is conferred annually by DLSU to outstanding advocates of human rights in the Philippines. It is named in honor of Sen. Jose “Pepe” Diokno, an alumnus of the university.

In her message, the Vice President talked about how justice has been described in many different ways and that it can be associated to pursuit of joy. “It is refreshing to be reminded that the pursuit of justice is worth celebrating amidst all the challenges that might make us believe otherwise. At a time when our basic rights are constantly being threatened, human lives are being disregarded, and our freedoms are under attack, it can be difficult to correlate the idea of human rights with joy. But to take the difficult path, to challenge it, and to come out stronger—that is the story of the Filipino. That is the story of the people we are honoring today: the late Senator Pepe Diokno and our two awardees, Maria Ressa and Bishop Ambo David.”

At 2:40 pm, the Vice President attended the Angat Buhay Youth (ABY) Fellowship Program at the Quezon City Reception House. The event gathered the ABY Summit 2017 and ABY Mindanao Summit awardees and provided an opportunity for the organizations to share project stories, best practices, and learnings to be used for the improvement of the Office of the Vice President’s future engagements with them and other youth organizations.
