Interview of SunStar Pampanga with Vice President Leni Robredo

    27 October 2017

VP LENI: … Pero I took the, parang, opportunity to invite them to partner with us sa Angat Buhay. Iyong Angat Buhay is the core advocacy program of our office. It’s an anti-poverty program na mayroong six key advocacy areas—nutrition and food security, universal healthcare, public education, women empowerment, rural development, saka housing and… housing and resettlement. We’re in… we started with 50 poor communities in the country; we’re now in 153. Iyong sa amin lang, kapag nakipag-partner sa amin iyong TPKI, I think it’s an opportunity for us to be able to reach—kasi iyong TPKI is Central Luzon—iyong the poorest communities in Central Luzon. As of now kasi, kaunti pa lang iyong communities dito. Halimbawa, iyong Doña Remedios Trinidad in Bulacan, na tinutulungan namin. At iyong pinakakonsepto kasi ng Angat Buhay, iyong office pinosition namin as a sort of a conduit between communities needing help and private organizations wanting to help. So kami iyong gumagawa ng groundwork.

Q: Sa Pampanga po ba, may plano po tayong mag-launch [nitong programa]?

VP LENI: Oo. And iyong Pampanga is very right for that, kasi maraming industries dito.

Q: Ah. Isingit ko na po iyong sa Marawi. Ano po iyong naging participation natin doon?

VP LENI: Actually, nandoon na kami ngayon. Iyong team ko, nandoon na since yesterday. Nakikipag-coordinate na kami with the Bangon Marawi team ng pamahalaan, kasi naniniwala kami— We’ve been… we’ve been— We had presence in Marawi even before the fight broke out.

VP LENI: Iyong OVP kasi is not an implementing agency. Wala kaming mandate talaga, so iyong pinakaginagawa namin iyong Angat Buhay. And iyong Angat Buhay, hindi siya government. Kahit government office kami, iyong resources niya, private.

    Q: Okay po, thank you!

    VP LENI: Okay, thank you!
