At 5:30 pm, the Vice President attended the Angat Buhay Youth Mindanao (ABYM) Summit 2018 (Gabi ng Parangal: The Grand Tribal Night) in N Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. ABYM Summit is a gathering of 30 youth organizations in Mindanao for a 5-day conference, which aims to create a hub of ideas for community-based projects and peace-building initiatives. It also helps to build a network of youth leaders who shall contribute towards establishing a culture of peace in Mindanao. The Office of the Vice President partnered with the US Embassy in the Philippines for this year’s ABYM Summit. Through its Youth Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, the US Embassy gave a Php25,000.00 grant to each of the 10 winning pitches from the participants. This was the second ABYM Summit and the first in Mindanao.
In her speech, the Vice President talked about the importance of the youth’s role in restoring peace in Mindanao. The ideas and suggestions they imparted during the Summit proved that the youth has so much to contribute.
