The Vice President was in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental for a series of events.
At 12:05 pm, she attended the turnover of the Rotary Club of Makati Dormitory to Sumilao National High School in Brgy. Vista, Sumilao. Access to quality education has been a perennial problem owing to the long distances students have to walk just to get to school. With this, the Office of the Vice President (OVP), in partnership with the Rotary Club of Makati, constructed a dormitory for Grade 11 and 12 female students. This aims to make education accessible to children living in geographically isolated and disadvantaged regions of the municipality.
At 1:10 pm, she attended the turnover of carabao, farm inputs, and tools to organic vegetable farmers from ten barangays in Sumilao. The Sumilao farmers’ fight continues as they try to make their land productive and income-generating for their community. Many of the farmers are used to conventional farming methods such as tilling cash crops but this usually results in marginal income because of the insecticides and other chemical inputs that need to be bought for the crops. Aside from the turnover, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc., an Angat Buhay partner of the OVP, conducted a training on integrated farming bio-system to 244 farmers.
At 3:25 pm, she went to the Ahon Laylayan Koalisyon planning session in Philtown Hotel and Oriental Garden Restaurant, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental. The planning session aimed to help the various civil society organizations in attendance to formulate their People’s Agenda and activities for their respective sectors.
