FY 2022 BUDGET HEARING (HOUSE COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS)
[Session Hall, Main Building, House of Representatives, Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City]
Vice President Leni Robredo personally appeared before the House Committee on Appropriations on Friday, September 10, for deliberations on the recommended P713.41-million budget of the Office of the Vice President for 2022.
As she has consistently done during her term, VP Leni herself presented before lawmakers her office’s budget, as well as OVP’s various programs, in particular its comprehensive pandemic efforts—initiatives for frontliners, hospitals, communities, and various sectors; jobs and livelihood opportunities; assistance for distance learning; teleconsultation for COVID and non-COVID cases; and support for testing and vaccination efforts of local government units.
The OVP initially proposed a budget of P714.56 million for 2022, but the Department of Budget of Management recommended P713.41 million—21% lower than the P908.79 million allocation the office received in 2021. In keeping with tradition, OVP’s recommended budget was swiftly approved by the panel.
Several lawmakers, led by Camarines Sur Rep. Gabriel Bordado Jr., however, called to increase the allocation to at least P1 billion, saying the OVP deserves higher funding in support of its programs.
