Vice President Leni Robredo personally appeared before the House of Representatives on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, for the plenary deliberations on the Office of the Vice President’s 2022 budget.
The OVP’s P713.41 million budget was swiftly approved at the House plenary. During the proceedings, Camarines Sur Rep. Gabriel Bordado Jr. also reiterated his call to increase the office’s budget to at least P1 billion. Bordado said this should be done in support of OVP’s programs, in particular its comprehensive COVID-19 response operations—which include initiatives for frontliners, hospitals, communities, and various sectors; jobs and livelihood opportunities; assistance for distance learning; teleconsultation for COVID and non-COVID cases; and support for testing and vaccination efforts of local government units.
Earlier this week, senators have backed the call to increase OVP’s budget as well during the deliberations of the Senate Committee on Finance.
The OVP initially proposed a budget of P714.56 million for 2022, but the Department of Budget of Management recommended P713.41 million—21% lower than the P908.79 million allocation the office received in 2021.
