Vice President Leni Robredo gave a message at the formal opening of The Medical City-South Luzon (TMCSL)’s COVID Complex of Hope at Greenfield City in Santa Rosa City, Laguna on Monday, May 11, 2020.

The COVID Complex of Hope is a facility separate from the TMCSL—one of the country’s COVID-19 referral hospitals—dedicated to coronavirus cases. The facility’s construction was completed in 27 days, through the generosity of numerous groups and individuals and support of the city government.

In her remarks, the Vice President underscored the importance of the collaboration of the public and private sector in helping Filipinos as the nation grapples with the pandemic.

“Kaya siya mahalaga dahil ito iyong pagpapakita na with bayanihan spirit nothing is impossible. Ito po iyong tema na nagiging saving grace ng aming Opisina for a very long time,” Robredo said.

She also lauded The Medical City for being at the forefront in handling COVID-19 patients in the country.

“Utang po namin sa inyo na sinusugal niyo ang mga buhay niyo para iligtas kaming lahat. So the least that we can do is offer our help; the least we can do is lighten your burden. Alam po namin kung gaano kahirap para sa inyo so our Office has been doing many things para sa… iyong sa kaalaman namin [na] makakagaan ng kahit papaano sa burdens niyo,” Robredo said.

VP Leni was also given a tour around the facility, which was built with smart houses that can accommodate 26 patients with a four-bed intensive care unit (ICU) section and a detached facility for its medical staff.

The TMCSL is one of the hundreds of recipients of personal protective equipment (PPE) sets and other medical supplies, made possible through the OVP and Kaya Natin! Movement’s online donation drive for COVID frontliners.

Some doctors of the TMCSL was also instrumental in the creation of locally-produced PPEs, designed by the team of Mich Dulce’s group in cooperation with VP Leni’s office.
