VP Leni brings aid to Tisoy-hit coastal areas in Albay, Sorsogon

BICOL — Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday extended aid to the provinces of Albay and Sorsogon, bringing relief assistance to coastal communities that were severely hit by Typhoon Tisoy.

Under its Angat Buhay program, VP Leni’s office brought a total of P4.58 million worth of assistance to five coastal communities in the said provinces, with more partners committing to help in the coming days.

VP Leni spent Monday morning in Albay, visiting Brgy. Pantao in Libon and Brgy. Marigondon in Pio Duran.

VP Leni provided financial assistance to a total of 259 families who lost their homes in the two barangays. It also brought a total of 558 sacks of rice for affected residents here.

In addition, the Latter-day Saints Charities Philippines, Inc., an Angat Buhay partner, donated a total of 1,352 hygiene kits for the two communities.

VP Leni’s office also brought assistance to Brgy. Cavit in the town of Manito. This included 115 sacks of rice, financial assistance for 14 families, and 164 hygiene kits from Latter-day Saints Charities.

In the afternoon, VP Leni went to Sorsogon, also bringing aid to Brgy. Zone 7 in Bulan and to Brgy. Gadgaron in Matnog. This included financial assistance to help a total of 350 families rebuild their houses, as well as 1,475 sacks of rice.

Coca-Cola Foundation will also provide 1,000 bottles of water each for the five towns.

A number of Angat Buhay partners have also pledged donations, including the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (Phil.), Inc. and the Kaya Natin Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership.

Amid the difficulties brought by Tisoy’s onslaught, the Vice President assured her fellow Bicolanos of her continued support as they rise from this calamity.

“Gusto ko po talagang personal na makapunta dito para maiparating sa inyo ang mensahe na sa oras ng kagipitan, kami po ay nakikiisa sa inyo. Mahirap man ang ating pinagdaraanan, basta tayo ay nagkakaisa, basta tayo ay nagtutulungan, walang imposible,” she told the residents in Bikol.

VP Leni also said her office will be assisting the province of Masbate and other areas battered by Typhoon Tisoy.
