Office of the Vice President
16 July 2017
Vice President Leni Robredo met with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong on Sunday (July 16). As part of the Office of the Vice President’s Istorya ng Pag-Asa program, VP Leni sat down with several Filipino domestic helpers working in Hong Kong to talk about their trials, tragedies, and triumphs.
The problems faced by OFWs—not only in Hong Kong but across the globe—range from burdensome employment requirements, to abusive employers. VP Leni referred to OFWs as the Philippines’ “unsung heroes,” whose stories of hope and struggle deserve to be highlighted. In turn, the OFWs she met with expressed happiness at being able to share their stories with her.
VP Leni previously visited Hong Kong along with running mate Mar Roxas during the 2016 election campaign, when they also met with several OFW organizations.
The full interviews conducted by VP Leni will be aired next Sunday (July 23) on Biserbisyong Leni, a radio show she co-anchors with Ely Saludar on DZXL 558.
