Vice President Leni Robredo has declared her support for the Bangsamoro Organic Law, and urged voters to ratify it in the upcoming plebiscites.
VP Leni reiterated her support for the proposed law, which will create an autonomous Bangsamaro region, replacing the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, ahead of the first plebiscite this coming Monday, January 21, for the residents of ARMM, Isabela City, and Cotabato. The next plebiscite will be held on February 6 for the province of Lanao del Norte (except Iligan City), municipalities of Aleosan, Carmen, Kabacan, Midsayap, Pikit and Pigkayawan in North Cotabato, and all other areas contiguous to the Bangsamoro core areas will be held on February 6, 2019.
“Hinihikayat natin ang lahat na suportahan iyong pagpasa ng Bangsamoro Basic Law dahil ito nga iyong unang hakbang para makamit natin iyong tunay na kapayapaan sa rehiyon at para [itong] signal na hindi tayo magkaka-away at pagtulung-tulungan natin iyong pagbabago,” VP Leni said during her weekly radio show BISErbisyong LENI at DZXL-RMN 558 on Sunday.
The Vice President said she believes that the BOL would pave the way for lasting peace in Mindanao, adding that the measure is one of the government’s efforts to correct the “historical injustice” that had sparked several conflicts in the region.
While some youth voters are cool to the creation of a Bangsamoro region, VP Leni encouraged them to still support and actively take part in the plebiscite as this would give them a chance for their voice to be heard.
